 The Darji story

Darji, born in India, traces his inspiration to a life-changing experience whilst a science student at university, which profoundly affected his life and work.

Indian beginnings a touch of class

Darji enrolled in the Art Academy of Mumbai and graduated in 1970 with a gold medal. He went on to teach art for a year and then for the next ten years worked as a graphic designer for the prestigious Intercontinental Taj group of hotels.

Darji then left the graphics arena to become a Bollywood film director and in 1987 met his Dutch wife Paula and moved to Holland.

The different culture and lifestyle provided a fresh challenge to his creative drive. Inspired, he created his unmistakable 'Darji style' of work, expressing his creative gift of painting in bold, clear colours and subtle metaphors.

English period a fusion of East and West

Contact with the thriving Asian community in England had caused Darji to return to his roots. His latest creative expression has given birth to an exciting fusion of the Eastern and Western streams of work, bridging the gap
between the two.

Darji continues to paint images expressing joy and communicating a positive influence. He draws his continuing inspiration from an inner strength which he likens to a rich palette of colours.

"There is so much to receive and so much to give - I give life to the colours and the colours give me the strength to go on," he says.

"I make colourful, joyful paintings which cheer up the mind and the spirit."

His collection now runs from black and white to a full spectrum of colours, from Oriental to Occidental, from abstract to figurative, from intelligence to elegance. His paintings are in the possession of private art collectors and major organisations in many different parts of the world. Ramesh Darji has found a niche for himself among the Asian and European public. His work truly reflects a touch of class. His delightful spectrum of inspirations are waiting to refresh the inner self.
