Darji, born in India, traces his inspiration to a
life-changing experience whilst a science student at university,
which profoundly affected his life and work.
Indian
beginnings a
touch of class
Darji
enrolled in the Art Academy of Mumbai and graduated
in 1970 with a gold medal. He went on to teach art for a
year and then for the next ten years worked as a graphic
designer for the prestigious Intercontinental Taj group
of hotels.

Darji's
first exhibition was held in India in 1982. His unique classical
Indian style of expansive, 'black and white' works,
called A Touch of Class, were a great success, selling
out in just four days.
Darji
then left the graphics arena to become a Bollywood film
director and in 1987 met his Dutch wife Paula and moved
to Holland.

Dutch
period colour
and metaphor
The
different culture and lifestyle provided a fresh challenge
to his creative drive. Inspired, he created his unmistakable
'Darji style' of work, expressing his creative gift of painting
in bold, clear colours and subtle metaphors.

English
period a fusion
of East and West
Having
achieved great success in Holland, his paintings being purchased
by private collectors and corporate clients alike, Ramesh
and his family moved to England in 1998.
Contact
with the thriving Asian community in England had
caused Darji to return to his roots. His latest creative
expression has given birth to an exciting fusion of the
Eastern and Western streams of work, bridging the gap
between the two.

Darji continues to paint images expressing joy and communicating
a positive influence. He draws his continuing inspiration
from an inner strength which he likens to a rich palette
of colours.
"There
is so much to receive and so much to give - I give life
to the colours and the colours give me the strength to go
on," he says.
"I
make colourful, joyful paintings which cheer up the mind
and the spirit."
His
collection now runs from black and white to a full spectrum
of colours, from Oriental to Occidental, from abstract to
figurative, from intelligence to elegance. His paintings
are in the possession of private art collectors and major
organisations in many different parts of the world. Ramesh
Darji has found a niche for himself among the Asian and
European public. His work truly reflects a touch of class.
His delightful spectrum of inspirations are waiting to refresh
the inner self.
